Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus exchanged vows at 62 with Australian singer Firerose, 34, after the pair confirmed their relationship in 2022. Though the wedding was a private affair, some fans couldn’t help but point out one unexpected detail.
Billy Ray’s marriage to Firerose comes after his long-term partnership with Tish Cyrus ended in divorce — their third attempt — in April 2022. Shortly afterward, he went public with Firerose, and by November of that year, the couple was officially engaged.
The two artists had known each other for more than a decade. Their first meeting happened years ago on the Disney set of Hannah Montana, where Firerose had come for an audition. Billy Ray fondly recalled how the two connected instantly: “She walked out of the building, and I just had this feeling she was special. I even told her I thought she’d nailed the audition.”
Although Firerose didn’t get the role, Billy Ray helped her meet several producers on set. “I told her, normally this would be a bad idea — taking a stranger backstage — but Tex, my dog, will vouch for me,” he joked. That moment sparked a friendship that eventually grew into something more.
Their relationship remained platonic for years until early 2022, when things changed. By August, Firerose had moved in with him, and shortly after, he proposed. Firerose described the proposal as heartfelt and spontaneous: “He just looked at me and asked, ‘Do you want to marry me?’ I didn’t hesitate. I said yes immediately.”
Interestingly, their wedding took place just months after Tish Cyrus remarried as well — she wed actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023. Tish’s children Brandi and Trace attended her wedding and posed for photos with Purcell and his family. However, Noah and Braison Cyrus were notably absent, spending that day shopping and posting light-hearted photos on Instagram — including one of Noah wearing a Billy Ray T-shirt.
As for Billy Ray and Firerose’s wedding, it’s not known which of Billy Ray’s kids actually attended. But once photos of the ceremony surfaced online, many fans fixated not on the couple’s happiness — but on the groom’s hair
Comments flooded in, with people surprised at his unkempt look: “Could have at least brushed his hair for the big day,” one person wrote. Another quipped, “All that money, and no hairbrush?” The scruffy hairstyle clearly didn’t go unnoticed by fans.
Even though the ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, it seems Billy Ray’s hair became the unexpected headline of the day.
