John Lennonā€™s loyalty to Yoko Ono came into question when a close friend recounted a scandalous episode from a party. According to Elliot Mintzā€™s new memoir, We All Shine: John, Yoko and Me, the legendary musician put his wife in a deeply uncomfortable situation when he engaged in intimate relations with a female fan while Yoko was present.

The incident, described by Mintz, took place at a gathering in New York during the 1972 presidential election results. As the couple hosted friends, Lennonā€™s behavior became inappropriate after consuming too much alcohol, leading him to pursue an encounter with the woman in a nearby room. Mintz recalled how Yoko sat in stunned silence, embarrassed, as other guests awkwardly prepared to leave, realizing they could hear everything happening through the thin walls.

Despite Yokoā€™s resilience, this betrayal would have lasting repercussions on their relationship. She later confided to Mintz that while she could find it in her heart to forgive Lennon, she doubted she would ever truly forget the incident. Reflecting on Lennonā€™s character, Mintz noted that John often reminded him that he wasnā€™t always the idealistic figure portrayed in his song “Imagine.”

This wasnā€™t an isolated incident for Lennon; he had a previous involvement with his assistant, May Pang, which lasted approximately 18 months. In her 2023 documentary The Lost Weekend: A Love Story, Pang disclosed that Yoko initially supported their romance, thinking it would be short-lived and insignificant.

The relationship between the couple is often mentioned as a key reason behind The Beatles’ breakup. They tied the knot in March 1969 and gave birth to their son, Sean Ono Lennon, in 1975. Sadly, Lennon was murdered by an obsessive fan in December 1980, at the age of 40.

Lennon is also survived by his first son, Julian Lennon, now 61, from his marriage to Cynthia Lennon, which lasted from 1962 to 1968. Yoko Ono also has a daughter named Kyoko Ono Cox, who is currently 61 years old, from her earlier marriage to filmmaker Anthony Cox.
