Once these beautiful and wonderful twins hated their hair.
Once upon a time, twins Cipriana Quann and TK Wonder hated their hair.
Cipriana says: “I didn’t have creative freedom. I almost started to hate my hair and see it as an obstacle”.
But after some time, they decided to love their curls and stop straightening them.
Together with girlfriend Nikisha Brunson, they started the Urban Bush Babes blog, explaining it this way:
“It has gotten to the point where people look askance at those who do nothing with the natural state of their hair and, for example, wear an Afro. We wanted to break down negative stereotypes about natural hair”.
Now the quirky sisters are featured in photo shoots for ASOS, Gap and fashion magazines and are admired by people all over the world.
The girls are asked the same questions every day, so Cipriana prepared the answers to them in advance.
Is this all your own hair?
– Yes.
“Wow, they must be heavy, is it hard for you to keep your head straight?”
– It is a common misconception that afro curls are heavy. In fact, the opposite is true. I can’t say I don’t feel global warming in the New York heat, but our hair looks deceiving: it’s actually as light as a feather. So the answer is no.
— Are your dreadlocks braided?
– Not.
– Why don’t you braid?
Dreadlocks are great, but I prefer the natural look of my hair.
– Another favorite question of mine: “Why don’t you wear the same hairstyle as your sister?”
My first thought is: well, that’s my right, obviously, I love my hair the way it is now, otherwise I would have chosen a different hairstyle a long time ago. Instead, I reply, “It’s just my choice”. Joking aside, I prefer not only aesthetics, but also the difference in the condition of our hair.
