Their thick smoky-gray fur with dark rosettes blends perfectly with rocky cliffs and snow-covered terrain. When the animal sits still, its body almost disappears into the landscape.

In local Himalayan communities, the snow leopard is often called “Shan.” People in the region say something fascinating about the animal: “You rarely see the Shan… but the Shan always sees you.”
