Facing Dementia Together: Bruce Willis’ Family Opens Up About His Condition and Their Journey

This year, the world was saddened to learn that 68-year-old actor Bruce Willis had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a condition that affects behavior, speech, and memory. Prior to this, it had been revealed that Bruce was suffering from aphasia, a language disorder that forced him to step away from acting.

Recently, his youngest daughter with Demi Moore, 29-year-old Tallulah Willis, appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she spoke candidly about her father’s health and the family’s decision to share his diagnosis publicly.

“He’s still the same dad to me,” Tallulah said emotionally. “When I’m with him, I feel his love. That’s something truly special — knowing your father loves you deeply. It’s a kind of comfort I’ll never take for granted.”

When asked why the family chose to speak openly about Bruce’s condition, Tallulah gave a heartfelt answer. “It’s just who we are,” she explained. “But beyond that, we realized we could use our experience to help others. If sharing what we’re going through can bring support or awareness to even one person, then it’s worth it.”

She described the process of spending time with her dad as both emotional and healing. “It’s like I’m a little archaeologist in his world — piecing things together, holding onto every part of him I can.”

Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, also spoke in a recent interview about how the family is coping. She admitted that it’s hard to say how much Bruce truly understands his diagnosis — and that uncertainty is one of the most painful parts. Still, she finds hope and comfort in the way their two young daughters, 11-year-old Mabel and 8-year-old Evelyn, naturally show their care for their father.

“Dementia is incredibly tough,” Emma shared. “It’s heartbreaking for the person going through it, and it’s just as hard for the family. In our case, that includes me, our daughters, and Bruce himself. When people say dementia affects the whole family, they’re absolutely right.”

Fans may remember that Bruce began facing challenges long before the official diagnosis. On the sets of Glass (2019) and The Siege (2020), the actor was already using an earpiece to get through his lines — a quiet signal that something wasn’t right.

Even in the face of illness, Bruce Willis remains surrounded by love — from his wife, his daughters, and the millions of fans who still see him as a cinematic icon.
