He Didn’t Bathe for Over Six Decades—What Doctors Found Stunned Everyone

“One man hasn’t bathed in 65 years — the other wants a divorce over it.” 😳 These two unbelievable stories from opposite sides of the world are sparking one wild debate. How far is too far when it comes to hygiene? Find out in the article below 👇

In a small village in Iran, an elderly man became the focus of a surprising medical story. The man, 87, hadn’t taken a bath or shower in over 65 years—yet doctors found him to be mostly healthy.

Known locally as Amu Haji, the man stopped washing when he was 67 years old. He believed that staying clean might bring bad luck—or even death.

He now lives alone in a modest shack that was given to him by locals. Before that, he lived in a hole in the ground. His diet is far from ordinary—he eats raw porcupine meat, usually from animals hit by cars, and drinks water collected from rainfall. For relaxation, he smokes a pipe filled with animal waste.

Because of his way of life, he never married or made close friends. Still, some people in his village try to help by giving him shelter.

Out of curiosity and concern, a group of doctors visited Haji to see how his extreme lifestyle had affected his health. To their amazement, they found no serious diseases. The only condition he suffered from was trichinosis, a parasitic infection that can cause fever, rashes, and organ problems—but even that hadn’t made him seriously ill.

‘You Need to Bathe’: A Man Seeks Divorce Over Hygiene Habits

In a different part of the world, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, a man is trying to end his marriage because of his wife’s hygiene routine—or lack of it.

The couple has been married for two years and has a young child. But the husband says he can no longer tolerate his wife’s refusal to wash daily, which is especially important in India’s hot climate.

Despite asking her many times to improve her hygiene, he says the discussions always ended in arguments. Eventually, he decided to initiate a controversial type of Islamic divorce known as “triple talaq.” This method declares a couple divorced if the man says the word “talaq” (Arabic for “divorce”) three times.

The wife, however, does not agree. She contacted a local women’s support group, saying she wants to stay married and work things out. Unfortunately, since the reason for divorce doesn’t involve abuse or any criminal act, the legal system can’t intervene.

Still, the advocacy group hopes the couple will attend counseling and find a way to save their relationship.
