Once a successful football player, Thomas McIntyre never imagined how quickly life could change after retirement. Without daily training and structure, the 43-year-old found himself slipping into unhealthy habits, and the weight began piling on.
Over time, his body changed dramatically. At his heaviest, Thomas tipped the scales at 196 kilograms. But it wasn’t until one painfully awkward moment that reality truly hit him.
“I got stuck in a turnstile,” he says. “People were staring. Some even laughed. I wanted to disappear. That’s when I realized I couldn’t keep living like this.”
Thomas had tried dieting before, following extreme meal plans and restrictive routines. But hunger and frustration always led him back to old habits — and even more weight gain.
Everything changed when Claire, his partner, stepped in. She didn’t push or shame him. Instead, she stood beside him — helping him find a healthier, more balanced way forward.
Together, they created a new rhythm: simple meals he could stick to, regular but manageable exercise, and small victories that built confidence. From daily walks with the dogs to light jogging, Thomas slowly started rebuilding not just his body, but his mindset.
Today, he weighs just 86 kilograms — shedding an incredible 110 kilos. But the real success, he says, isn’t the number on the scale.
“This wasn’t just about weight,” Thomas shares. “It was about finding myself again. And knowing I had someone who believed in me the whole way.”
His journey started with a stuck turnstile… but it ended with a brand-new life.
