The name of this American star is well-known all over the world. Titled as the blonde bombshell, she became one of the most iconic actresses of the 1950s and 1960s. As a top-billed film star for a decade, her films grossed $200 million by her passing. Born in Los Angeles, she spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages before her marriage to J. Dougherty at the age of 16. Before her career of an actress, she worked as a model after meeting a photographer from the First Motion Picture Unit. Still at the age of 5 she dreamt of becoming an actress since she desired to pretend to be someone else.

Her legendary roles in «Gentlemen Prefer Blondes», «How to Marry a Millionaire» and «Some Like It Hot» earned her a reputation of a dumb blonde. She was regarded the incarnation of the female beauty whose incomparable grace and charm let no one remain indifferent. While men desperately dreamt of her, women were jealous of her perfect looks and charisma which made her one of the most desired women in history.

Throughout her life the star had been married three times. Marilyn was only 15 when she started dating Dougherty who was 22 at that time. Despite her young age, they got married and the man considered himself the luckiest on Earth to have a wife like her. There was a possibility that she would be sent to an orphanage again, that is why James rushed to marry her to save her from that. Shortly after their marriage Monroe became a housewife dropping out of high school.

When he joined the Merchant Navy and taught sea safety, she went to Van Nuys to live with his parents so that she wouldn’t be alone. Soon, she signed a contract with a Model agency and filed for divorce in 1946 which left James heartbroken.

Monroe said the following:

«My marriage didn’t make me sad, but it didn’t make me happy either. My husband and I hardly spoke to each other».
