Their love story is undeniably among the most enduring and longest-standing ones in Hollywood. It started back in the early 1950s leading to their marriage in 1958. It was during the filming of «The Long, Hot Summer» that they instantly formed a special bond despite the fact that Paul was still officially married. The couple built a life away from the spotlight choosing privacy in Connecticut.
The Academy Award-winning actress put her family on the first place and deliberately stepped away from her career. The man greatly appreciated her act never ceasing to show his genuine gratitude. However, their life was not without struggles and challenges. Paul had a strained relationship with his eldest son who eventually passed away due to an overdose.
Things got worse when Joanne received the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease which was followed by his diagnosis with cancer. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2008 surrounded by his loved ones. Joanne’s life after the beloved one’s departure changed a great deal. Alzheimer’s disease took its toll on her and she ceased to recognize her family.
