Is it okay to run your washing machine twice in a row? Here’s what you need to know

“They say running your washer twice in a row ruins it—here’s what actually happens” 🧺⚙️ Laundry piles up fast in a busy home, and for many of us, multiple loads a day is just normal life. But does it really damage your washing machine? The truth might surprise you. See the real answer (with a few laughs) in the article below 👇

How many times a day do you run your washing machine? Once? Twice? More?

If you only do laundry once or twice a week, this probably isn’t something you’ve ever thought about. But if you live in a busy household—especially with kids—you know that laundry piles up fast. Personally, I run my machine two to three times a day, and no, we’re not messy people—it’s just life.

Why I Wash So Often

In our house, laundry is a daily mission. I’ve got two kids, a husband, and a whole lot of muddy clothes.

My youngest is a professional mess-maker. In the spring and fall, he comes home from playing outside with everything soaked and dirty—from his jacket down to his socks. That’s one load right there.

My oldest has intense sports training every other day. After each session, he brings home a pile of sweat-soaked clothes and towels. That’s another load.

My husband works in a factory where the smell of smoke and machinery clings to his clothes. The moment he walks through the door—everything he’s wearing goes into the wash.

Then there’s the usual household laundry: sheets, towels, sometimes even the curtains. So yeah, we do a lot of laundry.

But Then I Read This…

I stumbled upon an article recently that claimed running your washing machine twice in a row could wear it out faster. It said parts overheat, the motor gets stressed, and that your machine could die sooner than expected.

It cited some “British scientists” (no offense, Brits, but I’d trust a Chinese appliance engineer a bit more these days). According to the article, washing more than 4–5 times a week could shorten the machine’s lifespan and that back-to-back cycles were risky.

Do I Believe It? Not Really.

I’ve been using my current washing machine like a workhorse for six years—sometimes two or three loads a day—and it’s still going strong. Why? Because I take care of it. Here’s what I do:

Always check the pockets. Bolts, headphones, keys… anything small can damage your machine.

Don’t overload it. If your machine says 5kg, don’t try to jam in four king-sized duvets.

Use good detergent. Cheap powder can clog things up and damage hoses over time.

Use soft water if you can. Hard water wears down parts faster.

Buy a decent machine. Budget-friendly is fine, but don’t expect a $200 washer to last like a $1,000 one.

And here’s a little humor for you…

If you want your washing machine to last forever, here are three sure-fire methods:

Only use it on special occasions—like holidays or birthdays.

Better yet, never use it. Just leave it in your laundry room as a decorative piece.

Or skip buying hoses altogether and turn it into a cat bed. That way, the motor never burns out.

Running your washer twice in a row? Totally fine—especially if you’re dealing with real-life messes. Just take care of your machine, and it’ll take care of you.

What about you—do you run your washing machine back-to-back? Ever had issues? Let’s talk in the comments!
