Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem turned heads in Venice as the famously private pair stepped into the spotlight together for the 83rd edition of the prestigious film festival. The appearance was particularly notable because the longtime partners have rarely attended major events together in recent years, preferring to keep much of their private life out of public view.
The longtime couple attended the premiere of director Florian Zeller’s new film The Bunker, in which they both star. They were joined by fellow cast members Paul Dano, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Stephen Graham.
Cruz, 52, commanded attention in a vivid scarlet gown featuring a dramatic cutout at the hip. The actress completed her glamorous look with statement diamond jewelry and matching stiletto pumps.
Bardem, 57, kept things classic beside his wife in an elegant tuxedo. The pair posed closely together for photographers, making their appearance particularly notable as they are rarely seen attending major public events as a couple.
Their story stretches back more than three decades, with Cruz and Bardem crossing paths for the first time in 1992 on the set of the Spanish film Jamón Jamón. Bardem later revealed that there was immediate “chemistry” between them, but their lives were heading in different directions at the time and a romance did not begin.
Fifteen years later, they reunited while making Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and this time their connection developed into a relationship. The actors married in 2010 and are now parents to two teenage children, son Leo and daughter Luna.
