Giving birth to six children at the same time is extremely rare. For Janet Walton, it once seemed even more impossible — because doctors had told her from a young age that she would never be able to have children.
But life had other plans. Janet met Graham Walton when they were both just 17 years old on the Isle of Man. What started as a simple friendship soon turned into something much deeper.
Before their relationship became serious, Janet decided to tell Graham the truth about her condition. Because of a rare medical disorder, she had never had a menstrual cycle. Doctors believed she would never become pregnant.

Graham’s response was simple and full of love.
“I want to be with you. If we can’t have children, that’s okay.”
At 24, the couple got married and decided to try everything possible to start a family.

Years passed with no success. Janet went through 12 fertility treatments without becoming pregnant. The couple eventually agreed that if the next attempt didn’t work, they would consider adoption.
But during the 13th attempt, something extraordinary happened. At 31 years old, Janet discovered she was pregnant.
During the first ultrasound, doctors were stunned. The room quickly filled with medical staff, and the news was almost unbelievable.
Janet wasn’t expecting one baby. She was expecting six.

Doctors warned the couple that carrying all six babies to birth would be extremely difficult and risky. Despite the warnings, Janet stayed calm and determined. She was willing to face whatever challenges came her way. By the 31st week of pregnancy, the babies no longer had enough space, and doctors decided to perform a cesarean section.
On November 18, 1983, with seven medical teams present, Janet gave birth to six baby girls. Each weighed between 1 and 1.5 kilograms, but amazingly, all six survived.

One month later, Janet returned home with all six daughters. The challenge of caring for six babies at once was enormous. Graham took paternity leave, and the government even sent nurses to help the family.
For months, the parents slept only a few hours each night. They used two double strollers and baby slings just to take the girls outside. Despite the chaos, Janet and Graham said they felt incredibly happy.

Soon the Walton family from Liverpool became well known across Britain. They appeared on television shows and even participated in advertisements.
Over the years, the girls grew up and created their own lives.
Today, their paths are very different: Hannah became a primary school teacher and remained closest to her parents. Jenny opened her own bakery. Kate works at a staffing company. Ruth built a career as a secretary. Lucy became a flight attendant. Sarah started a family and welcomed a daughter named Georgie in 2014.

In a 2021 interview, Janet revealed she now has three granddaughters and feels deeply grateful for the life she once thought was impossible.
The woman who believed she would never have children ended up raising six daughters at once — and watching them grow into adults with families and careers of their own.

For Janet, it’s proof that sometimes life delivers miracles when you least expect them.
