Jim Carrey’s big talent for making audiences laugh sets him apart in the world of comedy. He remains our all-time favorite comedian and comedic actor. Bursting onto the scene in the 1990s, Carrey captivated audiences with his high-energy physical comedy and unforgettable performances. His filmography includes numerous cult classics, and he’s a well-deserved two-time Golden Globe winner. Yet, beyond his career, he is most admired for being a devoted family man.
The future star was born in 1962. His childhood was marked by frequent moves around the suburbs of Toronto and ongoing financial difficulties. As a child, he was introverted and introspective. At just eight years old, he discovered his talent for mimicry while making faces in the mirror. Despite his natural gift for humor, the burden of his family’s financial struggles weighed heavily on him.
Things became more difficult when his father, a musician, lost his job at age 51. Jim eventually dropped out of high school to help support the family, and they took on janitorial and security jobs at a local factory.
At 17, Jim began performing stand-up comedy in Toronto clubs to earn money. Though times were tough, he remained committed to his craft. By 19, he moved to Los Angeles, and his career slowly began to gain momentum. It was in the late 1980s, he met Melissa Womer whom he married in 1987, and six months later welcomed their daughter, Jane Erin Carrey.
Even after their separation, Jim remained a dedicated father. He ensured Jane had every opportunity to pursue her dreams.
Today, she is already 35 years old being the lead singer of The Jane Carrey Band. In her personal life, she married musician A. Santana in 2009, but the marriage ended in divorce a year later.
