She Was Only 16 When Her Weight Became a Target — Then She Lost 138 Pounds

For many people, deciding to lose weight can come from different motivations — improving health, feeling more confident, or escaping the pressure of unrealistic beauty standards. For Josie Desgrand, a teenager from Australia, the turning point came when she was just 16 years old.

At the time, Josie weighed about 280 pounds (127 kg) and often felt unhappy with the way she looked. Seeing images of slim models on social media made her constantly compare herself to others, leaving her feeling discouraged and trapped in unhealthy eating habits.

But one moment changed everything. Josie recalled the exact moment she decided to take control of her life. She went into her room, stood in front of the mirror, and took photos of herself to document where she was starting from.

“I promised myself — no more fat Josie,” she said.

She switched to a low-carb, no-sugar diet and started drinking much more water. With support from her father, who also joined the journey, she gradually began to lose weight.

Through dieting alone, Josie reduced her weight to about 198 pounds. But she didn’t stop there.

To push herself further, Josie joined a gym, which gave her the motivation to keep progressing toward her goals. Exercise helped strengthen both her body and her confidence. At first, social media had made Josie feel insecure. But she decided to turn it into a source of inspiration instead.

She began sharing her meals, workouts, and progress on Instagram under the account @nolongerfatjosie. Her honesty and determination quickly attracted thousands of followers who supported her journey.

People began asking for tips, recipes, and encouragement — and Josie made it a point to respond to as many messages as possible.

“I had been in their shoes before,” she explained. “I wanted to help as many people as I could.” Today, Josie weighs around 138 pounds, which is less than half of her original weight.

 

What started as a weight-loss goal eventually became a complete lifestyle transformation. Her story has inspired people around the world who are trying to make positive changes in their own lives.
