At first glance, this little house looks like a garden shed or a stylish backyard retreat. But step inside, and you’ll be blown away by what’s hidden within its compact frame.
American architect Chris Heininge never expected his small-space design to spark so much interest. Inspired by the years he spent living in Japan, India, and China—where space-saving solutions are a way of life—Chris returned home and decided to channel that influence into a project of his own.
The result? A fully functional home that measures only 6 meters long and 3 meters wide—but includes everything you need to live comfortably.
From the outside, the structure appears modest and minimal. But the moment you step inside, it’s clear that every inch has been thoughtfully planned.
The living area is cozy and bright, featuring a comfortable couch and clever use of lighting to open up the space. A staircase leads to a lofted sleeping area—and doubles as hidden storage, with drawers tucked neatly under each step. A compact fireplace is built into the base, adding both warmth and charm.
The kitchen makes full use of the space with upper and lower cabinets, built-in appliances, a TV, and even a small dining table. It’s both efficient and inviting—proof that small doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort.
Upstairs, there’s a snug bedroom complete with bedside tables, while downstairs includes a compact bathroom with a sink, toilet, and even a small tub.
What’s even more impressive? These homes are now available by custom order for around $60,000. They’re mostly pre-assembled and delivered nearly move-in ready. While the price might seem high for such a small footprint, the clever design and livable layout speak for themselves.
Chris’s design proves that with smart planning and inspiration, even the tiniest spaces can feel like home.
