There is hardly anyone who hasn’t heard of her story as the ugliest woman alive. However, only few know details about her diagnosis and personal struggles. As an ordinary English woman, she had no idea that her life would take such an unexpected turn.
In her youth, she looked and lived as an ordinary woman. The happy wife and mother was diagnosed with a rare condition and quickly changed beyond recognition. After the passing of her husband, she was left as a single mother of 4.
Soon, she started to show some signs of acromegaly which is a condition characterized with growth hormone production. This broke her inside, but she started to take advantage of it and participate in contests. Mary took part in the Homeliest Woman contest and this became only the beginning.
She became in-demand and was also invited to the amusement park. Her popularity grew day by day and she could not only make the ends meets, but also provide her children with everything and even more. She passed away in 1933.
