Amber Heard has offered a rare glimpse into the private life she has built in Europe after largely stepping away from Hollywood and the intense public attention that followed her legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. The 40-year-old actress marked a major personal milestone by completing her first half-marathon in the Spanish city of Donostia.
Heard celebrated the achievement on social media, sharing photos of herself wearing a sports top and cycling shorts while raising her arms triumphantly. “Thank you for my first half-marathon,” she wrote, partly using the Basque language.

The actress has reportedly settled in Madrid, where she now leads a considerably more private existence. She has learned Spanish and is said to personally take her eldest daughter to school while moving relatively freely around the city, where she attracts far less attention than she once did in the United States.

Much of Heard’s life now revolves around raising her three children as a single mother. Her eldest daughter, Oonagh Paige, was born via surrogate in April 2021. In May 2025, Heard welcomed twins — daughter Agnes and son Ocean.

Her professional life has also changed dramatically. Since her highly publicized dispute with Depp, Heard has moved away from major American blockbusters and has instead considered occasional independent European productions and theater work. In the recent documentary “Silenced,” she said she had consciously chosen not to become involved in public controversies anymore, preferring a peaceful home life away from constant media attention.

Heard and Depp’s bitter legal conflict stretched across several years. Their divorce proceedings began in 2016, while Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit culminated in a highly publicized 2022 trial. A jury found Heard liable for defamation over statements connected to an article about domestic abuse and awarded Depp damages. After appeals, the former spouses reached a settlement under which Heard paid Depp $1 million, which he directed to charity, while she said the agreement did not amount to an admission of wrongdoing.

Following the controversy, Heard left Los Angeles for Europe. She initially reportedly lived in Mallorca under an assumed name before eventually making Madrid her permanent base, where she is said to have purchased a home in the Chamartín district for around €1.5 million.

Depp, now 63, has meanwhile returned to film work after his own career was disrupted during the fallout from the former couple’s legal battles. Heard, however, appears to have chosen a very different direction — focusing on motherhood, occasional creative projects and a quieter European life far removed from her years at the center of Hollywood attention.
