At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, Glenn Close’s presentation speech was live broadcast cut part of it out, leaving viewers curious about what she had said. The 77-year-old actress was on stage to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama on Sunday, January 5. Her speech began with a touching quote from a letter written to her by the legendary Katharine Hepburn, where she referred to acting as “this daunting career, this intimidating line of work,” but also “this thrilling way to live your life.”

However, as Close continued her speech, the audio was suddenly cut off during the live feed, leaving a moment of suspense for the audience. The complete, uncensored version of her speech, including some colorful language, was later shared on the Golden Globes’ official YouTube channel.

“We’re incredibly fortunate and grateful to be gathered here in this space together.” Close expressed passionately, before quickly steering the attention to the main event, saying, “Let’s get to the reason why we’re here.” She then proceeded to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama to The Brutalist.

Though Close did not receive a nomination at this year’s Golden Globes, her career has been decorated with recognition, including three Golden Globe wins. Her last nomination was in 2021 for Hillbilly Elegy, where she was recognized for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.

Close looked stunning on the red carpet in a black Balmain dress with intricate sequined embroidery that evoked the look of handwritten letters. She paired the dress with black opera gloves, heels, and a small clutch. Inside the event, she posed with fellow celebrities, and even shared a moment with Harrison Ford, marking a reunion from their Air Force One days when she played the vice president opposite his president in the 1997 action film.

In a lighthearted moment, Close also made a surprise appearance during an interview with Glen P=owell on the red carpet. As Powell spoke with the press, he took a moment to tell Close, “I’m so honored. You’re the ultimate Glenn.” Close responded with a smile, saying, “Wonderful to meet you. Congratulations.”

Reflecting on her long and successful career, Close shared with Entertainment Tonight, “I consider myself incredibly fortunate. This marks my 51st year as a professional actress, and it’s all about perseverance, faith, growth, and staying grounded.”
