Shturkhantsi has always been a cherished dish in our household. My grandmother used to prepare it with love, and now it’s my turn to carry on the tradition. This simple yet satisfying recipe, made from everyday ingredients, deserves a spot in your kitchen. Let me show you how to make it.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Butter – 50 grams
Mashed potatoes – 500 grams
Egg – 1
Starch – 10 teaspoons (leveled)
A pinch of salt
Filling options: cottage cheese, sautéed mushrooms, sauerkraut, or braised cabbage
Step-by-Step Preparation:

Prepare the Base:
Start by making mashed potatoes as you normally would, but skip the milk. You’ll need around 500 grams. Once the mash cools down completely, mix in the egg and a bit of salt.

Form the Dough:
Gradually add the starch and knead the mixture into a soft dough. Lightly dust your work surface with starch to prevent sticking. Shape the dough into 10 equal balls.

Add the Filling:
Flatten each ball slightly, place your chosen filling in the center, and seal it well.

Cook to Perfection:
Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently drop in the shturkhantsi. Let them cook for 5–6 minutes until they float to the top.

Serving Suggestions:
Shturkhantsi taste best when served hot, topped with crispy bacon and a dollop of sour cream.

Enjoy this heartwarming dish, just like my family has for generations!
