After a long hiatus due to her cancer treatment, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has returned to her royal duties, dazzling fans with her impeccable fashion sense. The 42-year-old not only stepped back into the public eye with grace but also managed to subtly influence her husband’s wardrobe choices.
On October 10th, the Prince and Princess of Wales traveled to Southport to meet with the families affected by a tragic knife attack during a children’s dance class in July, where three young girls lost their lives. The couple visited the mourning families of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar. They also had a conversation with 35-year-old dance instructor Leanne Lucas, who suffered severe injuries while protecting the children during the attack.
During the visit, the royal couple also connected with emergency responders who were present during the horrific event, acknowledging their bravery and service on that fateful day.
Making her first public appearance after finishing chemotherapy, Kate looked glowing in a fashionable berry-hued ensemble. In a sweet nod to his wife, Prince William also chose to wear a berry-hued sweater, showcasing their united front. Kate’s ensemble featured a classic polka dot dress by Whistles, a design from the brand’s 2018 collection, which she accessorized with a decorative bow at the collar. Back when the collection was released, the dress retailed for £159.
Kate layered her look with a tailored, double-breasted coat from Alexander McQueen, one of her go-to designers. She completed her outfit with Gold Fern Drop Earrings by Catherine Zoraida, worth £165. The princess had previously worn the same coat at the Earthshot Awards in Boston in December 2022.
Prince William had previously promised the families of the victims that he would visit them after the summer tragedy, and the October 10th date had been planned for some time. However, Kate’s decision to accompany her husband was only made recently, as she wanted to personally show her support for the local community.
In the aftermath of the heartbreaking incident, the royal couple shared a sincere message conveying their shock and offering condolences to the impacted families. Their trip to Southport was Kate’s first public event since she announced her complete recovery from cancer in September 2024.
In an effort to keep the visit as respectful and private as possible, the couple’s meeting with the families was not announced until after they had left the area. Later, Kate and William met with emergency responders and mental health professionals who are providing ongoing support to survivors of the tragedy.
Additionally, the couple’s Royal Foundation made a donation to the National Police and Wellbeing Service charity, aimed at aiding the recovery and mental health of the police and ambulance staff who were involved in the aftermath of the attack.
