Meg Ryan made a rare family appearance alongside her son Jack Quaid, and the mother-son duo quickly became one of the sweetest sights of the evening. The 64-year-old actress and her 34-year-old son attended the opening night of George Lucas and Mellody Hobson’s Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles on September 19.
For the special occasion, Ryan kept her look elegant and understated in a black jacquard midi dress. She completed the outfit with oversized dark sunglasses, while her signature blonde hair was styled in loose waves. Jack looked polished beside his mother in a gray double-breasted suit, crisp white shirt and patterned black tie.
The pair happily posed together for photographers at the star-studded celebration, which attracted some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford and Kim Kardashian. The new museum is dedicated to visual storytelling across mediums including cinema, illustration, comics and painting.
What made Ryan and Quaid’s appearance particularly notable was just how rarely they are photographed together at public events. Their latest outing reportedly marked their first public appearance as a duo in nearly nine years. They were last photographed together at a New York Knicks game in December 2017.
Jack is Ryan’s only child with her former husband Dennis Quaid. The actors met while working on the 1987 movie “Innerspace,” married in 1991 and divorced a decade later. Ryan is also mother to daughter Daisy True, whom she adopted in 2006.
Jack ultimately followed both of his famous parents into acting and has built an impressive career of his own. He is widely known for playing Hughie Campbell in “The Boys” and has appeared in projects including “The Hunger Games,” “Oppenheimer,” “Scream,” “Companion” and “Novocaine.”
Ryan has also defended her son against the “nepo baby” label, insisting that his success shouldn’t simply be credited to having famous parents. Jack, meanwhile, has acknowledged that growing up with two successful actors meant his parents understood his ambitions from the beginning and encouraged him when he decided to pursue the same career.
