When Mel Gibson first came across the script for Braveheart, he instantly felt a deep connection to the story. He described it as “haunting,” and admitted the tale stayed with him long after he finished reading. Though the role of William Wallace was originally offered to him just as an actor, Gibson felt so drawn to the story that he chose to direct the film himself. “I just knew I had to be the one to tell it,” he said.
To make sure his Scottish accent was convincing, Gibson got some unexpected help from Sean Connery. He said learning an accent often comes from simply listening — and recalled a moment when Connery said the word “goulash” in his thick Scottish voice, which stuck with him as a kind of informal lesson.
Playing Wallace became one of Gibson’s most iconic roles, but behind the fame, his personal life stayed mostly private. He’s a father to nine children, one of whom — Milo Gibson — has now stepped into the world of acting as well.
Milo didn’t grow up dreaming of being on screen. Before acting, he worked as an electrician and massage therapist. But eventually, he discovered how much he loved performing. “My dad always told me to follow what makes me happy,” Milo shared. “And for me, that’s acting.”
His first major role was in Hacksaw Ridge, a war movie directed by his father in 2016. Since then, he’s taken on parts in The Tribes of Palos Verdes, All the Devil’s Men, and Dangerous, slowly carving out his own place in the action genre.
Despite having a famous last name, Milo says his childhood was kept grounded. “Our parents made sure we didn’t grow up in the Hollywood scene,” he explained. “That world can really change people.”
With his sharp features and growing list of film credits, it’s no surprise people often comment on how much he resembles Mel. “Sometimes people say I look like him,” Milo said with a laugh. “And I’m like, ‘Man, I wish I did!’”
