Michael Douglas made his latest appearance in Mallorca a family occasion, arriving at a special ceremony without wife Catherine Zeta-Jones but accompanied by their 23-year-old daughter, Carys Zeta Douglas.
The 81-year-old Hollywood star and two-time Oscar winner was named an honorary ambassador of the Spanish island on Monday. The ceremony took place at the Costa Nord cultural center in Valldemossa, an especially meaningful location for Douglas and his family, who regularly spend their summers in Mallorca.
Douglas warmly greeted guests and even made an effort to speak Spanish during the event. Despite admitting that his command of the language was imperfect, the actor appeared energetic as he took part in the celebrations.

Carys remained close to her father throughout the evening. The pair held hands and smiled together for photographers, creating one of the most memorable moments of the ceremony. She chose an understated black outfit with gold heeled sandals and wore her wavy hair loose, while Douglas looked elegant in a dark suit with an open-collar white shirt.
The “Mallorca, Terra d’honor” distinction recognizes people with a strong connection to the island whose work and involvement have helped strengthen Mallorca’s international reputation. Douglas was honored alongside several other prominent personalities, including former model Rosario Nadal and actress and television presenter Norma Duval.

During his acceptance speech, Douglas reflected on Costa Nord, which he helped establish approximately 25 years ago. “Being here tonight reminds me of 25 years ago, when Costa Nord was still just an idea,” he said. “I couldn’t be prouder of what it has become.” He also recalled a concert by Irish musician Van Morrison as one of his particularly memorable experiences there.
Douglas has maintained a deep connection with Mallorca for decades and has previously described the island as his second home. In 1990, he purchased the historic S’Estaca estate near Valldemossa for approximately $3.5 million.
The sprawling property covers more than 77 hectares and serves as a private retreat for the actor and his family. The estate reportedly includes eight separate buildings as well as a swimming pool, gym, library and spa.

Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in November 2025. Their daughter Carys has since begun carving out her own path in the entertainment world after studying film and international relations at Brown University.
Most recently, the 23-year-old made her professional stage debut in a New York production of Anton Chekhov’s classic play The Seagull. Her elegant appearance beside her father in Mallorca provided another rare glimpse of the grown-up daughter of one of Hollywood’s most famous couples.
