After more than two decades of speculation, Ricky Martin has finally addressed the persistent rumors linking him romantically to fellow singer and actor Eduardo Verástegui — and his response was anything but ordinary!
The Puerto Rican superstar decided to confront the claims with humor after Verástegui publicly denied that the two men had ever been romantically involved.
Rather than issuing a formal statement, Ricky took to social media with a surprisingly cheeky message.
“Laughing here because what else can I do,” the singer began, before making his position unmistakably clear.
“Just so we’re clear, I have NEVER seen Eduardo Verástegui’s ‘pipí’ — not his ‘pipí’ or ANYTHING,” Martin joked.
The unexpected comment quickly drew attention, especially because the singer had never previously addressed the long-running story so directly.
And Ricky wasn’t about to waste the opportunity for a little promotion!
He included a link to his latest music video, Pikito Pikito, featuring Pedro Sampaio, encouraging followers to check out the new release.
But where did the rumors begin?
According to Mexican entertainment journalist Ana María Alvarado, the story dates back to the 1990s, when Eduardo Verástegui was appearing in the popular teen telenovela Soñadoras alongside actress Aracely Arámbula.
The two played a couple on screen, and their professional relationship reportedly developed into a real-life romance.
Alvarado recently revisited the story during an appearance on the television program Sale el Sol.
She recalled attending a Ricky Martin concert in Mexico City with fellow journalist Fabián Lavalle and Aracely Arámbula.
According to Alvarado, the actress allegedly made a surprising remark while watching Ricky perform.
“And to think that the guy up there singing stole my boyfriend,” Arámbula supposedly said.
The journalist acknowledged that the incident happened many years ago and suggested that Aracely might no longer remember making the comment.
Nevertheless, Alvarado insisted that she personally witnessed the moment and stood by her account.
The story has continued circulating for years, despite the lack of confirmation from those involved.
Recently, Eduardo Verástegui was once again questioned about the alleged relationship during an encounter with reporters.
The actor and producer responded by emphasizing his long-standing friendship with Aracely Arámbula.
He explained that they have known each other for almost 30 years and remain close, just as he does with many former colleagues.
Verástegui described the actress as a wonderful woman whom he deeply admires.
However, when asked whether she had ever confirmed the rumors involving Ricky Martin, his response was firm.
He insisted that the story was false and expressed frustration that journalists continued asking him about the same subject after two decades.
“You’ve been asking me the same thing for 20 years. Be more creative, ask me something else,” he remarked.
Reporters also questioned whether the persistent speculation about his sexual orientation bothered him.
Verástegui said it did not, explaining that he feels secure in his identity and personal convictions.
For his part, Ricky Martin has now made it equally clear that he rejects the romantic claims.
