If you’ve never attempted to bake bread at home before, this is the perfect recipe to start with. It’s incredibly simple, requires basic ingredients, and fills your kitchen with the most amazing smell while it bakes. The best part? The result is a soft, golden loaf weighing around 600 grams—perfect for slicing, toasting, or just enjoying fresh with butter.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
300 ml warm milk
7 g dry yeast
2 teaspoons sugar
3 tablespoons vegetable oil (olive oil works great)
1 teaspoon salt
400–450 g all-purpose flour
Step 1: Activate the Yeast
Warm up the milk (it should be warm, not hot). Pour it into a bowl and mix in the yeast, sugar, and about 100 g of the flour. Stir it well, drape a clean towel over the bowl, and set it in a warm spot for about 20 minutes. The mixture should become frothy and start to rise.
Step 2: Make the Dough
Add the oil and salt to the mixture. Gradually stir in the rest of the flour (about 300–350 g) until a dough forms. Knead it for a few minutes until smooth and soft. Cover the bowl again and let it rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
Step 3: Get Ready to Bake
Grease a bread pan (mine was 23×14 cm and 5 cm deep) with a bit of oil. Place the dough into the baking dish and let it rise again until it puffs up.
Step 4: Into the Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the bread for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Let it cool before slicing—it’ll hold its shape much better that way.
This homemade bread is soft, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying to make from scratch.
