At first glance, this wooden cottage doesn’t demand attention. Built in 1957, it stands quietly, with no flashy garden beds or vibrant paint. Unlike the traditional red homes that dominate Sweden, this house, with its naturally aged wooden exterior, remains unpainted and understated.
Tucked away on the small island of Helgö, the cottage measures just 60 square meters. Helgö itself spans only 48 hectares, home to around a hundred residences and a surprisingly well-developed infrastructure. Despite its secluded feel, the island is just a 40-minute commute from Stockholm, allowing locals to easily reach the city for work or school.
A Modest Exterior, A Warm Interior
The property consists of multiple buildings:
The main house, featuring a kitchen and living room downstairs, with two bedrooms and a small toilet upstairs.
A repurposed barn, now functioning as a workshop and laundry area.
A storage shed, used for extra supplies.
Inside, the home is full of life. A single mother, an artist, lives here with her two children. While her kids spend their days at school and kindergarten, she works from home, filling the space with her creative spirit.
