After his marriage ended, he walked away from everything and moved into a shipping container — and it changed his life in ways he never expected

“After his breakup, he moved into this” 📦🌿 When life flipped upside down, one man didn’t just start over—he downsized in the most unexpected way. His story isn’t what you think. See how he’s living now in the article below 👇

After going through a breakup, Jay Adler from Gloucestershire didn’t just move out—he completely changed the way he lived. At the start of 2020, while the world was already going through enough chaos, Jay added a personal twist to his own story by swapping a typical home for something way more unconventional.

“I was living what many would call a normal life,” he said. “But it didn’t feel like my life—it just kind of happened.” The separation made him rethink everything.

Jay had already been running a small bar with a friend, and it wasn’t your average place—it operated out of two old construction containers. The concept struck a chord with him. When the divorce was final, he thought: why not live in one?

He didn’t waste any time. He found a landowner who had a spare container and asked if he could move in and pay for the plot and utilities. She agreed. By July that year, he was settled into his new home.

Jay spent around £300 to hook up the container to water and electricity. It was a tight budget, but he managed to make it livable. While it’s not luxurious, Jay says it gives him everything he needs and helps him save a ton of money.

There’s just one downside—he still has to haul his laundry to the nearest laundromat. But even that doesn’t bother him too much. He’s already saving for his next step and appreciates the peace this simple life has brought him.

Living in a container has pushed him to go outside more, enjoy long walks, and notice the small things he once overlooked. What started as an unusual housing choice has become a lifestyle shift that he doesn’t regret.
