Katherine Schwarzenegger has shared an uncommon family moment featuring her parents, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, side by side years after their split.
The 37-year-old writer slipped the surprising reunion into a roundup of summer snapshots, marking the end of the season before returning to everyday life.
One picture immediately stood out. They were photographed smiling side by side during what appeared to be a celebratory family dinner.
Arnold sat in front of a slice of cake topped with a sparkler, while Maria posed beside him. Katherine wrapped an arm around her mother from behind as Patrick and Christina gathered around them. Katherine did not reveal what they were celebrating or when the picture was taken, although Arnold celebrated his 79th birthday on July 30.
The pair tied the knot in 1986 and went on to raise four children together: Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher Schwarzenegger. Their relationship came to an end in 2011, when Maria began divorce proceedings, though the legal process was not completed until December 2021. The split followed the revelation that Arnold had a son, Joseph Baena, now 28, with Mildred Baena during his marriage to Maria.
Despite the painful circumstances surrounding their separation, Arnold and Maria have remained connected through their children and growing family. In 2023, Arnold explained that although they lead separate lives and have their own relationships, they continue communicating about their children, holidays, birthdays, Mother’s Day and Christmas. He explained that Maria would always remain an important part of his life. Although the nature of their bond has changed, he said his feelings toward her are still filled with affection and warmth.
Maria echoed that sentiment in 2025, revealing that she and Arnold were “in a good place.” She said they still laugh together about their children, grandchildren and themselves, adding that they were proud to remain in conversation after nearly 50 years of knowing each other. Another recent family picture showed the former spouses sitting together in winter coats and sunglasses during what appeared to be a ski trip.
Now Katherine’s latest summer album offers an even rarer look at their post-divorce relationship, bringing Arnold, Maria, and three of their children into the same frame. Fifteen years after their separation, the former spouses continue to come together for the family moments that matter most.
