Obesity, especially in its extreme forms, is often misunderstood. Many people assume it’s simply the result of poor choices or a lack of discipline, but for those living with it, the truth is far more painful and complex. Here is a closer look at what it really means to live inside a body that weighs over 300 kilos—and how love, trauma, and second chances all play a part.

At 42 years old, Lee Saton weighs over 320 kilograms. He knows his size is not just limiting his life—it’s also deeply affecting the woman he loves. His partner, Renee Kizer, weighs around 250 kilograms herself, but she’s remained by Lee’s side, helping him bathe, caring for him, and offering constant emotional support.

Lee’s weight issues go back to childhood. As a young boy, he endured sexual abuse he never spoke about and was deeply affected by his parents’ sudden divorce. Food became a coping mechanism—a way to numb his pain and anxiety. By the time he was 10, he weighed 100 kilos. At 17, he was already 230.

It wasn’t until a decade later, after hitting another dangerous milestone on the scale, that he sought help at a weight loss clinic. That’s where he met Renee.

Renee had also been through a difficult childhood. Her mother suffered from severe mental health issues, including hallucinations, and often scared Renee with unpredictable behavior. Like Lee, she turned to food for comfort. By the time she was a teenager, she weighed 130 kilograms. Her mother eventually left the family and cut off all contact—an emotional wound Renee carried for years. After the death of her father, she realized her life needed to change and entered the same clinic where she met Lee.

Their bond was immediate. They became close friends, but the clinic had strict rules against romantic relationships. Eventually, the couple left treatment to be together—even though their combined weight had already passed 575 kilograms.

For over a decade, their lives revolved around food and each other. They made no progress with their health, but Lee had a dream: he wanted to propose. The problem? He physically couldn’t kneel. Meanwhile, Renee quietly longed to live for herself and break free from the emotional and physical prison her weight had built around her.

Finally, they reached out to Dr. Nowzaradan, a renowned specialist known for helping patients with severe obesity. But surgery wasn’t an option—not yet. At their current weights, they were too high-risk. Dr. Now prescribed a strict 2,000-calorie-per-day diet. Renee needed to lose 34 kilos to qualify for surgery. Lee? At least 68.

The road wasn’t smooth. Arguments flared, especially during moments of weakness and cravings. At one point, Lee lashed out physically, and Renee gave him a choice: food or their relationship. He chose her and began therapy to manage his emotions.

By the end of the show, Lee had dropped to 184 kilos. Renee was down to 127. Together, they had lost nearly 260 kilograms. It wasn’t just a medical success—it was a sign that their dreams might finally be within reach. If they continue on this path, they may soon be able to do things most couples take for granted: get married, share intimacy, and truly begin living life again.

Do you think love is enough to carry people through such a difficult transformation? Or does change only come when both partners are ready to fight for it? Share your thoughts in the comments!
