Maud Adams, best known for her iconic role as Octopussy in the James Bond franchise, still remains a memorable figure in cinematic history. The Swedish actress, who turns 79 today, rose to fame after portraying the exotic and mysterious smuggler in the 1983 Bond film. Her connection to the franchise was unique, as she also appeared in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) and made a cameo in A View to a Kill (1985), becoming one of the few to feature in three Bond films.

Before her Bond fame, Maud was discovered in Sweden in 1963 and went on to model internationally. Her acting career took off in the early ’70s, with roles in TV shows like Hawaii Five-O and Kojak. Maud’s breakthrough came with The Man with the Golden Gun, where she starred alongside Christopher Lee. Her collaboration with Roger Moore continued in Octopussy, where she became a standout star.
