Kevin Costner has played cowboys, heroes, and legends on screen — but he insists his most meaningful role has always been “father.” Over the years, the actor has welcomed seven children from three relationships, creating a large, blended family he frequently describes as the center of his world.
His first three children — Annie, Lily, and Joe — were born during his marriage to Cindy Silva. All three spent time around Hollywood while growing up, with Annie and Lily appearing in a few of Costner’s early films before eventually pursuing creative paths of their own. Joe, meanwhile, shifted behind the camera and now works in sound production.
Costner later welcomed his fourth child, Liam, during a brief relationship with Bridget Rooney. Though Liam stays mostly out of the spotlight, Costner has spoken warmly about him and the importance of staying present for each of his children, regardless of age or upbringing.
In 2004, Costner married designer Christine Baumgartner, and together they had three more children: Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. These are the kids most often seen accompanying the actor to premieres, sports games, and family outings. All three joined him at the 2024 Los Angeles premiere of Horizon: An American Saga, a moment the actor called “one of the highlights of my year.”
Costner has admitted that becoming a father again later in life came with fears — mainly whether he would have the energy to stay involved. But he says his younger kids keep him active, whether it’s helping with school routines, attending sports practices, or simply making memories at home.
Each child has carved out their own personality. Cayden showed an early interest in music, Hayes grew into a natural athlete and even appears in Costner’s film Horizon, and Grace embraces creative hobbies like sewing and dance. Costner says he loves how different they all are, and that parenting seven kids has taught him patience, humor, and perspective.
Despite a busy career and public life, Costner makes it clear that family always comes first. He frequently describes his kids as the “anchor” that keeps him steady. During Thanksgiving last year, he even posted beach photos with six of them, calling those moments the thing he feels “most grateful” for.
From toddlers to adults, Costner’s children span multiple generations — but the actor says that’s exactly what makes his family dynamic rich, unpredictable, and endlessly rewarding.
