Maria never imagined that one unexpected meeting would completely change the course of her life. Her future husband, Lubinda Haabazoka, arrived in Rostov from Zambia to study economics. Like many international students, he quickly became part of campus life. Alongside his studies, he even joined the local KVN comedy scene, where his sense of humor helped him make friends and feel at home in a new country.
It was during those student years that he met Maria.
The connection between them did not happen overnight. Lubinda had to work hard to win her attention. But his persistence — and especially his humor — eventually won her over. What began as a simple acquaintance slowly grew into something much deeper.

Their relationship, however, quickly became the subject of whispers and stereotypes. People around them questioned their love and made hurtful comments behind their backs.
Despite the criticism, Maria chose to follow her heart.
She married Lubinda and made the difficult decision to leave Russia and move with him to Zambia. The transition was far from easy. Maria suddenly found herself surrounded by a completely different culture, language, and lifestyle.

Those first years required patience and courage. But with her husband’s support, she gradually adapted to her new home.
Over time, their family grew. Maria and Lubinda welcomed two children — a son and a daughter — and began building a life together.
Today, the couple has been married for 15 years.

Although Maria still occasionally receives unpleasant comments from some people back home, she says it no longer affects her happiness. In Zambia, she has created a life she never expected.

Lubinda built a large house for their family, and the household is supported by staff who help manage daily tasks. Maria runs her own business and dedicates time to raising their children.

Her husband now holds a high-ranking position in his field, and the family lives comfortably.
After years together, their relationship remains strong. For Maria, the choice she once made against the expectations of others has become the foundation of a life filled with love, stability, and family.
