«The oldest Tony Award winner in history!» Let’s shed light on actress Lois Smith’s journey to stardom

Born on November 3, 1930, in Topeka, Kansas, she built a career that lasted over 7 decades. Lois grew up in a family where her father directed biblical plays, so the future star was introduced to stage at an early age. Soon, she found ageing as her calling for which she was destined. It was after performing in her father’s productions that she grew the passion for it which led her to head to New York City.

The 1955 feature in LIFE Magazine together with other young Broadway talents brought her career into a new level. Soon her big talent led her to serious theatre such as A. Chekhox, H. Pinter and T. Williams. Brilliantly acting in «The Seagull» and «Twister» marked her transition into film and now she graced both stage and screen keeping the balance perfectly and solidifying herself as one of the most in-demand and outstanding figures of cinema.

Lois’s appearance in «The Grapes of Wrath» and «Buried Child» earned her two Tony Award nominations. Surprisingly, the actress was already 90 when she won her first Tony Award for her role as Margaret in «The Inheritance» which made her the oldest performer to receive this award. Even today, in her 90s, she continues to work actively remaining dedicated to her craft. Her appearance in «The Uninvited» at the age of 93 was nothing short of remarkable.

She remains true to the philosophy that success comes with discipline and joy.

«Be on time and enjoy yourself».

Even while approaching her 95, she is still a vivid example of resilience, authenticity and responsibility.
