A young couple with a creative vision and a passion for interior design set out on an unusual mission: to find an old Soviet-era apartment in truly terrible condition — and transform it into a beautifully modern, functional living space.
They eventually landed on a 57-square-meter flat in a 1962 building. And yes, the original condition was… unforgettable. Just take a look at those swan tiles in the bathroom!
But that’s exactly what they were after — a place where they could strip everything down and build their dream home from scratch.

In the bedroom, they created a cozy, stylish atmosphere with a sleek bed and minimalist pendant lighting as the main design features.
Although there was no dedicated wardrobe space, they solved the issue with a discreet dressing area tucked behind a white matte louvered door.
The narrow guest room was handled with care — soft-toned wallpaper, a white ceiling, and herringbone flooring opened up the space visually. The room now comfortably fits a desk, a sofa, and a tasteful wardrobe.
The small bathroom, just 4.5 square meters, now feels spacious and chic. They fit in a full bathtub, a wall-mounted sink, and a washing machine — all finished with locally made tiles that gave the room a clean, fresh feel.
A built-in storage cabinet in the hallway maximized the limited entry space. No more messy shoe piles — and since Dmitry assembled the unit himself, it adds a personal, handmade touch to an often overlooked area of the home.
The kitchen, designed in soft, light tones, became one of the standout spaces in the apartment. It’s calm, bright, and effortlessly modern.
Their dining nook in the living room has turned into their favorite spot to unwind — with views of the sky and warm evening light, even from the fifth floor of a Khrushchev-era building.
And the sofa? Seamlessly placed and perfect for relaxing.
