After long thought, Alain entered the French fleet and was eventually sent to Indochina. Upon returning to France, he worked as a messenger, clerk, and waiter before he decided to settle in Rome. It was in Rome that his acting career began.
Delon’s success with Visconti led to other partnerships with other famous Italian directors. He starred with Monica Vitti, an Italian actress, in Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1962 film The Eclipse. For his game, he was nominated for a gold palm branch and a special prize from the jury of the Cannes Film Festival.
