Each of us at least once dreamed of escaping people and modern life, at least for a while. This man named Angelo Mastropietro made his dream come true! He settled in a cave that is 250 million years old.
After everyone found out about him, they called him «the caveman»․ He turned the cave into a real palace. He spent about £160,000 on it after that. «I want to live in a place where I can have a healthier and happier life», he said.
During his childhood, Angelo lived outside the city and enjoyed the beautiful views. He was able to fulfill his dream already in adulthood. The cave, which was used as a home for 300 years, was abandoned in the 1940s. The work on the interior doors alone took him 11 days…
The neighbors laughed at the family living in the cave, but when they went inside they were delighted. He did almost all the interior work himself; he also made the kitchen and all the furniture with his own hands. A fireplace was used to heat the home.
The exterior of the cave was left untouched, except he added large windows for natural light. When journalists came to visit Angelo, they were delighted. «I love doing challenging things. My last name means «owner of stones», so I guess that’s my calling», he explained.
