The species can live up to 150 years. They are considered long-lived turtles.

There are about 10 of these turtles left in the wild. Thus, as part of the breeding program, Nigrita was able to give birth to healthy babies.

Even though Nigrita is old, she takes care of her young.

The father of the little turtles is 54-year-old Jumbo.
