American craftsman Horace Burgess may have set out to build a simple treehouse, but what he ended up with is something truly extraordinary—a towering wooden structure that could be the world’s largest treehouse, complete with 80 rooms.

The project began back in 1993 when Burgess initially planned to construct a modest cabin. However, as his vision expanded, so did the treehouse. Built across six sturdy trees, the structure eventually grew into a 10-story wooden giant—all without any professional architects or construction crews.

Relying on salvaged materials, Burgess pieced the house together using reclaimed wood from old barns, discarded construction supplies, and parts from abandoned homes. As word spread, neighbors even began donating materials to help him complete his ambitious project.

What makes this treehouse even more remarkable is what’s inside. It features a full basketball court, a church, multiple terraces and balconies, winding staircases, hidden rooms, and even a penthouse on the top floor. It’s a maze of creativity, built with passion and resourcefulness.

However, not everyone is impressed. Fire inspectors deemed the structure unsafe due to a lack of proper safety measures, making it illegal for anyone to live there permanently. But that hasn’t stopped Burgess—he continues to reside in his one-of-a-kind creation, proud of the masterpiece he built with his own hands.
