Few know that his real name is Donnie Wayne Johnson who came into this world in 1949 in Missouri. He was born in a working-class family. His mother was a beautician and his father was a farmer. He studied theater at the University of Kansas.

As he became passionate about acting quite early, he dropped out of college early and headed to San Francisco to pursue an acting career. In order to gain acting skills, the future star enrolled in the American Conservatory Theater. His best role was in «Miami Vice».

The other movies which were also remarkable throughout his career are «Tin Cup» and «Nash Bridges». What concerns his personal life, he has five children from different women one of whom was actress D. Johnson.
