Charlize became the only child of Gerda Theron and Charles Theron. Raised on a farm outside the city, she is of Afrikaner descent. Initially, she received education as a ballet dancer having danced both «Swan» and «The Nutcracker». After relocating to the US, she started working as a model. However, her passion for dancing came to an end due to the serious injury she suffered.
The future star’s early life was fraught with challenges and insecurities. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother shot him in defense when the star was only 15. This shaped her as an individual helping her develop resilience. It was her 1997 role in «The Devil’s Advocate» that became her debut one where she starred alongside A. Pacino and K. Reeves. Despite being infamous, her superb acting and charisma attracted the A-listed stars.
This role marked the start of her drizzling career. She even deservedly received The Best Actress nomination for her portrayal in «Monster» solidifying herself as one of the sought-after and outstanding actresses of the time. She achieved success not only in acting, but also directing having created her producing company.
For the most part, Theron chooses roles of independent, fearless women which reflects her high status in the industry. Classic female characters are definitely not for an actress like her. She also raises awareness of the issue of health-protecting services and women’s rights.
